Mongolia is currently threatened by a “Dzud”, which isa multiple natural disaster consisting of a summer drought producing small stockpiling of fodder, followed by very heavy winter snow and lower than normal temperatures.
On 2 February 2010 the FAO Representative Office in Beijing has organized a briefing to inform on “Dzud” situation in Mongolia (See file “Mongolia Dzud2010”) and emergency aid action being taken by countries and multinational agencies, and to attract possible new aid to herders.
